Global Art
Good morning from Newmarket. Our first double header of the year today, with a runner apiece at Lingfield and Chelmsford!
We kick off with Global Acclamation in the 1.20 at Lingfield, a seven-furlong 0-60 handicap for three-year-olds. This horse has disappointed so far, as we thought we had him competitively handicapped from an initial mark of 63 after three runs, but in two nurseries since he has shown precious little and is now down to just 56.
Hopefully the new mark gives him a chance of being competitive, and first-time blinkers are also enlisted in the hope they will liven him up somewhat. However, having got lumbered with the widest draw of all in 14, we are probably playing for places at best. We will likely have to take our medicine early and ride for luck, but I know we are up against it. There is some talent lurking so I hope we will see something positive, but it is impossible to be confident, all things considered.
Our other runner is Global Art, who goes in the mile and a quarter 0-80 handicap at 7.15 at Chelmsford, and he would have a much more realistic chance.
He has been a model of consistency of late, and this is his ideal course and distance. He did absolutely nothing wrong last time out, when going down narrowly over C&D to Star Of Southwold, but we apply cheek-pieces for just the second time in his career in the hope that he can find a pound or two of improvement. He has no secrets from the handicapper, and this is typically competitive of course, but Global Art is one or most reliable horses and it will be disappointing should he not be involved at the business end tonight.
All the best,
Ed.
