Dark Red
It is a much drier day here at HQ today and it is forecast to get drier and warmer moving into next week. We will soon have fast ground again!
It was a frustrating day yesterday. Tadleel travelled well but did not pick up as well as I hoped and finished eighth. It was sticky ground and he is still learning so I hope we can see better next time. Sir Gnet broke very well and as a consequence he was too keen and failed to stay in the ground. Blushing Red ran well and pleasingly he switched off much better than at Newcastle. He travelled well into the race and kept on to finish fourth, there was plenty of promise for the future from this run. Wealth Tax travelled well and failed to pick up, it may be that he needs to drop back to a mile. Amazing Red did not have the clearest of runs up at Hamilton in the Braveheart and the way the race panned out did not suit him. He is a lengthener rather than a horse with a potent turn of foot and I hope we will see better from him as the season progresses.
Dark Red drops back to a Mile in the 1m handicap at Newbury later on today at 17:10. He travels well and as long as the overnight rain has soaked into the ground and it is not gluey then he will enjoy the surface. He won and was placed in some valuable handicaps last year and I hope he can do us proud again this season. He has been pleasing me at home but he has had a good break. He has the services of Ryan Moore who knows the horse and has won on him before and I hope he can run well. Sinfonietta will love the ground and has a recent run under his belt and he looks the one we all have to beat.
