Ed is delighted how well his small squad of all-weather horses have shaped up this season, and PALM PILOT enhanced our impressive strike-rate on the sand when outgunning School For Scandal in an epic tussle up the straight to take the 1900 metres maiden at Wolverhampton on Wednesday evening.
Only four runners lined up, but it looked a hot little heat and all credit to Palm Pilot, who was stepping up in trip but got the extra distance well under a fine ride from champion jockey Paul Hanagan, standing in for the suspended Eddie Ahern.
School For Scandal tried to make all, but, while he ran about in the middle of the course, Hanagan got the far rail, and Palm Pilot, carrying the Reference Point colours of the Cliveden Stud, put her head down and battled her way to the front in the dying strides.
Palm Pilot, the only filly in the race, has gone up 6lb since she began her winning spree here at Wolverhampton on January 3, and, doubtless, she can expect another rise up the ratings, though we hope not too much!
