Global Style
Good morning from Newmarket. Oh how quickly fortunes can change in this game! Having enjoyed a good spell of form over the previous couple of weeks, we banged our head against the wall with three seconds on Friday and then both of our runners on Saturday were bitterly disappointing. We are therefore now treading carefully again, feeling our way towards the next winner rather than galloping confidently!
Today I rely on Amplification at Ffos Las and Global Style at Windsor. Amplification is fitted with first time blinkers in the 3.15, a seven-furlong 0-75 contest. He was a promising two-year-old, running well in a warm contest on debut and then winning in determined fashion at Doncaster. He ran ok on his three-year-old return, but has disappointed in three of his four subsequent starts. A rating of 74 should be manageable, we have gone to Ffos Las for the ground as he doesn’t want it too fast, and the blinkers might just help. All things considered, he ought to run very well, but he has disappointed one too many times to be confident. Fingers crossed he puts his best foot forward for Eddie Greatrex.
In the 7.30 at Windsor, Global Style is another that is bidding to get back on track following a disappointment. A half-brother to Belardo, I hoped he was a fair prospect for low-grade middle distance handicaps this season, and he has run a couple of decent races in truth. He was second over a mile and a quarter at Redcar in May, and third at Thirsk in June, before running poorly and not appearing to put it all in back at Redcar over a mile and a quarter. We are now confident he needs at least a mile and a half, and we are using a tongue-tie and first time blinkers in the hope they will encourage him to put his best foot forward. This isn’t an easy contest, and he has something to prove, but I hope that he has a bit of an each way chance. Gerald Mosse rides.
All the best,
Ed.
