Red Verdon
Everyone is very excited here at La Grange after we have supplemented Red Verdon for the Derby this morning with Silvestre De Sousa booked to ride him. We are under no illusions as to how difficult a task he faces but he is a rapidly improving horse who we feel deserves to take his chance in such an open year. Mr Arculli is very excited to have another Derby runner and he has been very supportive and extremely sporting as it is of course very expensive to supplement a horse for the Derby. Red Verdon has come out of his Haydock race extremely well and Silvestre was pleased with him when he rode him in a piece of work on the Cambridge Road yesterday
Gloryette is our only runner today and she takes part in a very warm Fillies’ maiden at Leicester. We are still learning with her and the front two in the market look like they will be gaining Black Type in time.
Many congratulations to my neighbours who all had a very good weekend. Home Of The Brave was very gallant when holding off Convey in The Jury Stakes Group 3 at Haydock on Saturday for Hugo Palmer. Speedy Boarding then showed great tenacity to hold off Siljan’s Saga in the Prix Corrida at Saint-Cloud Group 2 yesterday for James Fanshawe. Dylan Mouth warmed up for bigger targets ahead by destroying the field in the Gran Premio Di Milano Group 2 at San Siro for Marco Botti.
I played Cricket yesterday for the first time in 2016 yesterday for the Newmarket Racing XI. We beat a Chippenham X1 and I managed to score a few runs. It is very cold here in Newmarket again this morning and overcast, not weather you would expect as we head into June.
