Michael's Mount
Michael’s Mount loves soft ground and the son of Mount Nelson has been a model of consistency lately since he has had his preferred conditions, winning at Lingfield and then placing at Windsor and Haydock. He stepped back up in trip to 1m4f at Ripon on Saturday and he looked to have solid each way claims on a competitive 0-85 contest.
Luke Morris settled Michael’s Mount towards the rear in the opening stages of the race on the inside rail. He picked up the bridle and travelled with enthusiasm as the leaders set sedate fractions throughout the first half of the contest. Our gelding continued to travel well into the business end of the race and Morris continued to sit quietly as he waited for a gap heading towards the furlong pole. A gap opened and Michael’s Mount was asked to go and win his race at the furlong pole. The son of Mount Nelson responded and went clear, holding off Indy by half a length.
This was a career best performance from Michael’s Mount and he will now have mark in the mid to high eighties. He travels like a horse who possesses a fair amount of ability and was fantastic to see him winning for the fourth time. He should continue to be competitive on his favoured soft ground when he is reassessed.
Congratulations to Michael’s Mount’s owners The Miltil Consortium. All of the partners are big supporters of the yard and we are delighted to see your gelding start to fulfil his potential. Well done to everyone here at La Grange, it has been a frustrating couple of weeks with plenty of horses placing and it was great to see Michael’s get his head in front again.
