King Kevin
King Kevin has started to find his feet recently and two recent thirds had offered some encouragement that he would have a good chance in the concluding 1m2f handicap at Chelmsford last night. Enthusiasm was tempered a little after he was drawn in the widest berth but he had the best recent form on offer and we still felt he could be competitive in what looked a weak affair.
The son of Holy Roman Emperor looked to have blown his chance at the start when he was slowly away. He was able to latch onto the back of the field after a couple of furlongs as the leaders set honest fractions for the grade upfront. He found a rhythm and crept into the race during the middle part of the contest and he began to eat up ground on the outside as the field entered the final two furlongs. King Kevin hit the front entering the final furlong and despite shifting to his left he beat the well supported Hediddodinthe by just over two lengths at the line.
This was a fair performance from our gelding given his tardy start but we have to remember that this was a weak affair. If the handicapper is not too punitive he should be competitive in the future as he was drawn badly yesterday and he gave the field atleast five lengths at the start.
Congratulations to everyone at La Grange on King Kevin's win. After a frustrating spell last week when the horses all ran well but we ended up with three seconds it was satisfying to get a winner. This was our 48th winner of the campaign and hopefully we can get to fifty in the next few weeks,
