GWORN shed his maiden tag at Wolverhampton tonight in impressive style when taking the mile and a half a furlong nursery under Graham Lee. The son of Aussie Rules had shown plenty of promise behind subsequent Royal Lodge Stakes second Artigiano on his debut at Leicester in May, but failed to build on that run when reappearing at Nottingham the following month. However he kept on well over a mile at Lingfield last time to finish a creditable third, so he was not winning out of turn here.
The Noel Martin owned colt was held up and came steadily with his challenge to lead a furlong out, eventually going away to score by five lengths at the line. Judging by the manner of this victory, he will stay further and there should be more to come from him on the all weather this winter.
