Summer Party
After a glorious day yesterday it is overcast and we have had light drizzle at times this morning but nothing that will make any impact on the ground at the July Course. Our annual Summer lunch went very well and everyone seemed to enjoy themselves, the food was excellent. Ladies day was very well attended yesterday and it was great to see so many people enjoying themselves in the sunshine, it really is one of the highlights of the year. Frances Stanley did extremely well when finishing eighth in the Town Plate and it has been fantastic to have her riding out here in the mornings.
Zamjar broke his maiden at Epsom yesterday evening when winning the 6f Maiden, he had run into two useful horses on his last two starts so it was good to get a win into him here and he travelled through his race very well. The Lacemaker showed a lot of promise when fifth in the first division of the fillies’ maiden at Newmarket, Instigation was too keen in the same race and Marwa was very green in the second division when slowly away. Alligator showed some improvement at Newbury in the Median Auction and he will now qualify for nurseries whilst Gloryette finished in mid division in the 1m5f handicap.
We have two runners today at Newmarket, Amlad runs in the 7f maiden at 2:05 and he is a colt by Lope De Vega that I like. He will improve for the experience however and there are horses with experience in the race who have a solid level of form on offer as well as some well bred newcomers. Vivre Pour Vivre has been gelded since his disappointing run last time where he was too keen in The London Gold Cup, he won’t run if the ground is too fast but he is a good looking son of Pour Moi who I think quite a bit of.
The French made it through to the finals of the European Championships but it was not a classic game by any means. They will start as warm favourites against the Portugese. Andy Murray showed a lot of fight on Wednesday to make it through to today’s semi-final against Tomas Berdych and if he carries on in the vein of form he is in then he should take the Wimbledon title for a second time on Sunday. There is no flat racing here but it promises to be a fantastic day of sport.
