Another dry day here in Newmarket and I would very much like a little rain this evening so that there is some moisture in the ground for Red Verdon tomorrow. There is still a little chill in the air and it is a lot cooler than the warm spell we encountered last week.
SirGnet flew home late and was just denied by a neck in the Mile handicap at Newbury. He settled much better on his handicap debut and I was very pleased to see him finish his race off so strongly. Sporting Times got shuffled back as those drawn wide were ridden positively to get to the front and the pace then slowed down. He was tapped for toe when they sprinted for home and stayed on when it was too late. He will get further in time and I was not too despondent with him given how the race panned out.
We run four horses today. Fabulous Red runs in the 2:00 at Doncaster. She is by Red Jazz who is doing well in his first season as a sire and whilst she will improve for this debut, I expect her to run respectably. Chocolate Account and Incredible Red both make their debut in the three year old fillies’ Maiden. They will both learn a lot from their first experience on the racecourse and it looks a strong race despite the absence of Glittering Jewel.
Sukoot is our final runner up at Newcastle this evening in the 8:40. Tamih was fourth on debut in a race that was working out well and is well drawn given it often pays to be closer to the stands rail up at Newcastle. Cobalty Isle has run well in both starts and Important Mission can be forgiven his debut run which was disappointing. The newcomers could have potential and it is a trappy Maiden. Our gelding appears to have stepped forward from his debut run and has a little each-way chance.
