Perique
Good morning from Newmarket. We have experienced a bit more snow again this morning, but thanks to our team and all the heathmen we keep the show on the road.
It is worth reflecting quickly on Dark Red’s run in Dubai last night. We were pleased with his effort, as he was in a stronger race than two weeks previously but managed to improve his finishing position by taking sixth. It remains to be seen whether or not he will stay in Dubai for more Carnival action, or return home where he has an entry in the Lincoln. He certainly demonstrated that he retains his ability yesterday so there remains plenty to look forward to with this wonderful seven-year-old.
On to this afternoon and Perique has his second taste of racecourse action in the mile and a quarter novice for three-year-olds at Lingfield at 2.55. This son of Cacique made his debut over the same track a few weeks ago, although over two furlongs further, and was incredibly green. He bungled the start, raced awkwardly throughout and then took an age to get going in the home straight.
Clearly he is a long term project, and we are in against some better horses today, but Perique is badly in need of the experience and education. Hopefully he can learn plenty from his debut and make a better first of things this afternoon. Dan Muscutt takes the mount.
All the best,
Ed.
