Indian Warrior

It is a beautiful day in Newmarket and there is a gentle breeze blowing across HQ which will help dry the ground out a little. The newcomers Maiden at Newmarket tonight is always an interesting race and there should be some nice types for the future running this evening. The Shergar Cup has been hit by a lot of jockeys pulling out due to commitments elsewhere but it is a good initiative that captures the Public’s imagination and I look forward to being there tomorrow.

Wealth Tax has been in fantastic form lately and he won again at Sandown last night. I was impressed with the way Finley Marsh settled him early on in his race and he is working for the right man, so I would expect him to continue to progress and it won’t be long until he loses his seven pound claim. Fabulous Red was a little slowly away up at Newcastle and they went slowly for the first couple of furlongs, she did her best work late and we will step her up to seven furlongs now. Weloof was trapped out wide in a slowly run affair and he can be given another chance.

We have two runners today at Brighton. Indian Warrior should improve for a sixth furlong and will appreciate the return to faster ground. He was a little flat after Lingfield but he seems to be in good form at home after a break. Lake Volta ran a promising race in what is traditionally a strong Maiden at Goodwood and if he steps forward from that he will be hard to beat. Pranceabootthetoon has a penalty to overcome but he has run to a fair standard too.

Zamjar is another who will appreciate the return to better ground today and we feel the track may suit him as he has won at Epsom and Chester and he could be better around a bend. We have swapped the blinkers for a visor and he may just have needed the run last week after a break, so we are hoping for some improvement here. The draw is not ideal but David Probert has been riding the track well this week. Highly Sprung heads here on the back of a win and is the deserved favourite from a good draw but it is a very open handicap as you would expect.
