First Quest
First Quest stepped up in trip to contest the mile Maiden at Sandown last Thursday having shown promise over seven furlongs towards the end of July at Newmarket. The son of First Defence was only beaten just over four lengths on his debut and we felt he was sure to improve for that run. He was soon tracking the leaders just off the rail under William Buick as they went a sensible gallop in the early stages. He started to ask for a response from our colt two furlongs from home and he found for pressure to take the lead entering the final furlong. Whip Nae Nae started to pick up on the outside but our colt was very tough and stuck his head out as the Hannon horse came upsides him, holding on to win by a short head.
This run bodes well for the future as our horse showed such a likeable attitude. The handicapper has not been too heavy handed and he has been given an opening mark of 76. We hope he can improve with racing and be able to be competitive in nurseries off of this rating. He is likely to be kept at this trip when he is next seen.
Many congratulations to the First Quest Partnership, the majority of the Partners were present at Sandown and we hope you had a fantastic evening, there seemed to be many beaming faces in the winners enclosure. This was our eighth two year old winner of the campaign and we hope there will be more to come. First lots have been pulling out earlier in this warmer weather, so well done to everyone for all your hard work and we hope we can push towards the fifty winner mark.
