Amazing Red came into the ten furlong Pontefract maiden with a promising run at the Craven meeting under his belt. The son of Teofilo had got caught on his own on the outside at the Rowley mile but he showed he had ability before fading late in the race as he was entitled to on debut. Drawn out wide in stall number eight Paul Mulrennan cleverly missed the break and soon had Amazing Red settled on the rail near the rear of the field. Never too far off the pace he niggled him to get closer before the bend and our colt responded soon travelling powerfully once more. When he was produced for his effort Amazing Red knuckled down and was going away from the favourite Timekeeping at the end to win by two and three quarter lengths.
Given the way our horse saw out his race on the good to soft ground it would suggest that a mile and a half will not be a problem for him in time. He is still very inexperienced and we would hope he can progress once more from this taking effort. He has both a Derby entry and an entry in the King Edward VII Stakes at Royal Ascot and we hope further improvement will allow him to earn a place in such contests.
Congratulations must go to Mr Arculli who of course owned his half-brother Red Cadeaux and this win will mean a huge amount to him. Congratulations also must go to the whole team here and to Steve and Robin especially who have always had great belief in Amazing Red and were unseparable from Red Cadeaux on his adventures.
