Grandscape showed once again why he is one of the stable favourites when putting in a very gutsy performance to win by a neck at Southwell Racecourse yesterday. This was our apprentice Sophie Smiths first winner on only her second ride as an apprentice.
The initial plan was to be handy but he was slowly away and Sophie was quick to react and brought him to the inside rail. They went an even gallop and he travelled well, turning for home he started to pick up with Sophie taking a very brave gap down the inside giving him every chance. He hit the front with half a furlong to go and bravely fought off the impending challenge from Sociologist to win a neck.
It was a dream start for Sophie and made even better by the fact that her mum Kate Smith who owns him could make the trip up to watch. Sophie was even able to make it back to our Christmas Party where we all celebrated her maiden success. I am sure this will be the first of many.
A special thanks must go to Ula who does an amazing job looking after him and all of the team at home.
